Os do Fondo da Barra is a Galician music group that emerged from the Xacarandaina Cultural Association, based in the city of A Coruña. This association has been active for 45 years and is one of the major references in the country’s folklore, due to its efforts in preserving Galicia’s cultural heritage. This group consists of 12 men who perform songs collected from across Galicia, with the aim of representing the masculine singing traditions of Galicia’s intangible cultural art.
“Os do Fondo da Barra” is presenting their new musical project, BâNZô. This album contains authentically traditional songs treated with a modern folk approach, closer to the new “World Music” trends. In it, you can hear tavern songs, seafaring songs, and accompaniment songs for dancing, using various percussion instruments as well as accordion, bagpipes, saxophone, tambourine, and bass drum with Turkish cymbals.
BâNZô is presented through a performance that incorporates various traditional elements, both musical and movement-based, within a contemporary composition. It offers a fresh stage interpretation of traditional culture and is considered a contemporary-style spectacle.
All under the artistic direction of the renowned folklorist Quique Peón.
