Coimbra Fado

Beatriz VILLAR (Portugal)

Since forever seen as an inspiring figure for many poets and singers, women were relegated to the role of mere listeners of Coimbra Fado, giving rise to the tradition that only men could sing and play this musical style.
But Coimbra is a woman.

Coimbra will always be a woman. And as a 21st-century woman, Coimbra can and should be sophisticated and worldly. A lady of class, determined and self-assured, Coimbra is synonymous with tradition and music. Those who pass through her carry her with them for life. Those who do not love her do not truly live.

Beatriz Villar embraced this idea with the youth, vision, and courage necessary to carry out a project that will face natural resistance to change from the public and that aspires to revolutionize the Fado that lives in Coimbra.

Coimbra belongs to Portugal; Coimbra belongs to the entire world.
