Anxo LORENZO is a virtuoso award-winning Galician piper who has toured extensively throughout the major European festival circuit, having featured in WOMAD, Cambridge Folk Festival, Celtic Connections, Festival Interceltique de Lorient, Ortigueira, Cork Folk Festival, William Kennedy Piping Festival, Achill harp Festival, to name a few.
His exceedingly high octane, mesmerizing performances have left audiences in euphoria, becoming a modern entry in the lore of many of these long established events. Reciprocally, he has been decorated with festival awards (the latest being the distinguished Folkherbst Award) and regularly features in official festival CD charts.
In addition to fronting his own band, Anxo has collaborated with such prestigious artists as Lúnasa, The Chieftains, Kathryn Tickell, Jarlath Henderson, Michael McGoldrick, Blackie O ́Connell, Diarmaid Moynihan, Ross Ainslie, Marta Sánchez…
Eoghan NEFF’s “extreme fiddling” (Folk World) “traces shadows where few fiddlers deign venture” (Irish Times). Commanding an “audio goldmine” (Irish Music Magazine) of experimental and avant-garde sounds on his acoustically prepared instrument, his celebrated “demonic” (IOM Today) virtuosity and idiosyncratic extended performance techniques matched with an “astounding mastery of live looping” (Folk Radio UK) can be heard across various feature films (by Oscar-winning and Cannes-winning directors), television series (as soundtrack and theme music), independent screen productions (from documentaries to animation), and 20+ albums (from experimental fusion to free improvisation).
He has toured as a featured soloist on diverse stages from secluded Scandinavian clubs (Torrek) and Mediterranean cafés (Assembly Point) to packed-out European arenas (Riverdance) and major international festivals (Anxo Lorenzo Band)
